T Levels

T Levels are a new level 3 technical qualification, designed to give young people a technical alternative to A levels.

Part of the course involves an industry placement. T Levels are designed to benefit employers too: they have been designed in consultation with industry, and aim to help employers find the best young candidates to fill their skills needs.

T Levels are being introduced between 2020 and 2022 in England. Their aim is to improve the teaching and administration of technical education, which will enable students to directly enter employment after completion. They will also give employers a pipeline of talent with the knowledge, attitude and practical skills crucial for the workplace.

Lasting for two years, T Levels sit alongside traditional A Levels and apprenticeships and provide an alternative route into employment or higher study for 16-18 year olds.

A key part of a T Level qualification is an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days). The placements will give students the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and behaviour in a real working environment, helping to prepare them for further study or paid work.
