North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) has welcomed a new service launched by Jobcentre Plus that is signposting jobseekers to opportunities in expanding industry sectors.
The new Jobhelp website has been launched to raise awareness of career opportunities and live job postings within sectors such as logistics, social care, construction, and green energy.
Katy Urwin, Director for Apprenticeships at NWSLC said, “While the global economy has taken a hit from COVID-19, and many individuals are facing challenging circumstances including redundancy, we know from our close relationships with businesses across the East and West Midlands that some sectors are forecasting immediate growth and are likely to bounce back quickly.
“Green energy is one of the most exciting sectors and the Green Homes Grant is predicted to support 120,000 jobs as part of a plan to improve the UK’s housing stock. We can also expect to £1bn of government funding to boost the energy efficiency of public buildings, including schools and hospitals and £50m is planned to be spent on improving the energy efficiency of social housing, all of which will create and sustain even more job opportunities in the green energy sector.
“The construction sector is set to grow and is working to attract more women into the industry to join the 320,000 women who already work in a wide range of jobs on site as well in roles as supervisors, project managers, planners, designers and engineers.
“The pandemic has helped us all to see how important the adult social care sector is and there are thousands of jobs available which provide a real opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives. Job roles in social care provide flexibility as well as long-term employment prospects and career progression routes.
“The logistics and supply chain sector is thriving and NWSLC is working in collaboration with Aston University, Wincanton, and GLP to launch a dedicated new training and research facility, the Centre for Logistics Education and Research (CLEAR) this summer that will be based at the heart of the ‘Golden Triangle’ at GLP’s Magna Park development in Lutterworth.”
NWSLC itself responded to the Government’s ‘Plan for Jobs’ by launching its Community Skills Hub last year to provide access to all the information, advice and guidance that is available to support economic recovery following the coronavirus pandemic.
“Colleges are at the leading edge of helping to reenergise the UK economy and NWSLC is in a great position to make links between organisations that need skills and individuals looking for work, whether they are starting out for the first time, retraining to follow a new direction, or seeking support following redundancy. It is our mission to introduce skilled and work-ready individuals to employers across the region.”
